Eaglexit Nov-Dec 2024 Newsletter

Our deepest thanks to our veterans and their families, and we wish you a happy, safe and joyous Veterans Day. Thank you for your unwavering service to our country, your sacrifices, and your undying commitment to freedom and our nation’s values. Thank you also to our military families for your staunch support for each other and our communities.

Fundraiser update: Our October 19 fundraiser was a huge success! We had more people than expected attending, and as an organization, we cleared just over $40,000. We sold all of the 250 tickets! Thank you to our amazing community of freedom-loving individuals and families. A special congratulations and shout-out to Audrey Mason, who won the grand prize of $5,000.

Left: The excitement was palpable as Matt and Michael drew the winning tickets; Right: Nani Palmer, Melissa Hickey and Catherine Margolin taking a break from registering guests.

As Lee Jordan asked on October 29, 1975, “Will the people of Chugiak-Eagle River have the opportunity to control their own destiny, or must they forever remain subject to what has been decreed for them by Anchorage?

Our board is committed to giving our citizens of Assembly District 2 a voice and choice to be self- determined and self-governing.

During the latest phase of the detachment and incorporation of our new Chugach Regional Borough (CRB), we have submitted the Charter for the new CRB to our legal counsel. We have also submitted the Education Charter to a separate legal team, which has specific expertise in education and the ASD.

Next steps: complete the Transition Plan (super close on that one), as well as the Legal Brief (needs work) and the Metes and Bounds, a document detailing the new borough boundaries and Local Governance Committee Districts.

As unpaid, grass-roots volunteers who have given our time and money to this effort, we are absolutely committed to the success of this project. But we can't do this alone. We need your ongoing help to pay for legal assistance, events, marketing materials, flyers and more. If you believe in freedom, limited government, low taxes and better schools, please donate!. It's easy and very much appreciated. It's time for change.

Turning the petition into the LBC for review and getting their approval of content will allow us to take a completed document to the public. Then we will start collecting the signatures requred by the LBC, currently estimated at about 15,000. When signatures are completed, we will turn in the petition with signatures to the LBC for analysis and judgment. If they approve the petition the question will be taken to the citizens of Assembly District 2 with a vote in an election governed by the LBC.

Marry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Eaglexit Board! We thank you all for the support on the path to self-governance of our communities. Our next newsletter will be in January. Enjoy the holidays and family!

The Next Town Hall: December 3, Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center

Our next town hall meeting will be on December 3 at the Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center at 7 pm. Please join us for the latest update in our journey to freedom. We will be talking about our progress this far, about the issues we expect to face, and more. We'll also take questions from the audience.

To our members and donors:

Please consider supporting the creation of the next borough in Alaska. As anticipated by our founders, when communities grow and are ready to become independent, it is right that they do so. It takes all of us. Alaska is ready for this!

Local Voices making Local Choices.

Thank you for joining us in this effort!
