Where are we now?
You’re probably asking yourself, when are we going to submit the petition to the Local Boundary Commission? Good news: The pieces and parts of the petition (Charter, Transition plan, Legal Brief and District Map) are just about ready to go. The Board is planning a final work session this week to resolve issues, vote on some final questions, and finalize the LBC submission.
The next town hall is Tuesday, October 21!
This will be the final Town Hall of the year, so please come or attend via Facebook Live Stream.
TOPIC: The structure of the new government.
Guess what—all residents should want to know this. We will have a mayor, an assembly, a school board, and Local Governance Commissions (sort of like our current Community Councils, but with more teeth). We encourage anyone who is skeptical about Eaglexit to attend and ask the burning questions.
We also encourage you to check out a recent Must Read Alaska article by Zack Gottshall. A group calling themselves the Federation of Community Councils (FCC) is introducing draft bylaws that, if passed, will effectively terminate the Community Councils’ ability to direct funding based on the needs of their communities and a small group of unelected individuals will retain control of spending.
If you are interested in local self-government, lower taxes, and a lean, responsive administration, please consider running for one of the offices in our new borough: Mayor, local governance commission member, assembly (one assembly member per district), and school board. These people will be critical in the initial setup and structure of our new government.
Events Calendar: (all town hall meetings are public and free!)
Tuesday, 21 Oct 2025: Townhall
7:00 P.M., Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center (22424 N Birchwool Lp, Chugiak, AK 99567) Nov-Dec: No planned events
The board here at Eaglexit believes that we have a great community with strong beliefs and are working hard to have the voices of our community not only heard but represented fairly. It remains our goal to lower property taxes, improve education and retain public services to the Chugiak - Eagle River Borough. Read more here.
To our members and donors: Thank you for your support. We appreciate you and know we can’t do this without you.
Please consider supporting the creation of the next new borough in Alaska. As anticipated by our founders, when communities grow and are ready to become independent, it is right that they do so. It takes all of us. Alaska is ready for this!
