Hello Eagle River, Chugiak, Birchwood, Eklutna and JBER!
We hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the summer. A lot of things are happening this month, including the Chugiak 4th of July parade and the Bear Paw parade!
Eaglexit is nothing without the people. We invest our time, energy, and resources into this vision because we believe that a brighter future is possible. We believe that a petition leading to a vote by the residents of JBER, Eagle River, Chugiak, and Eklutna on detachment is the best, most honest way of truly hearing the will of the people. But we can’t do this on
our own. We are employees, parents, individuals much like you and are limited in what we can accomplish as a board of 13 people. We need you. We each have different circles or spheres of influence and together we have a significantly broader impact. We are not asking for your vote on detachment right now. But we are asking that you walk in the parade
with us to show support for the idea that our petition should come to a vote by the residents.
We believe that a vote on our petition will give clarity to the true will of the people, whether they say they want to continue as we are or detach. In short, with a vote we definitely put the rest the question: “Do the residents [of Assembly District 2] want to be part of Anchorage?” Please join us in walking in the Chugiak July 4 parade, and/or the Bear Paw parade
(you’re welcome to participate in both). You’ll get a free Eaglexit t-shirt and some great exercise.
FRIDAY, JULY 4 CHUGIAK PARADE:
Meet us at the Chugiak Fire Station at 1:00 – 1:30pm to register with us and pick up your t-shirt.
The parade starts at 2:00. We’ll be walking with the Eaglexit truck, handing out candy and flyers to the crowds. If you are unable to walk but want to join us, you are welcome to ride on the float. You are also welcome to bring your children and pets to walk in the parade as well.
After the parade: The Chugiak – Eagle River Senior Center is hosting a barbeque with hamburgers, hotdogs and games. Be sure to stop by the Senior Center after the parade! (This is a plug for our amazing Senior Center—these people are fantastic.)
SATURDAY, JULY 12 BEAR PAW PARADE:
Walk with us in the Bear Paw parade! We’re handing out colorful pinwheels (you’ll be a hit with the kids), as well as flyers and smiles. Again, you’ll receive an Eaglexit t-shirt to wear for the event.
We don’t know where we are in the lineup, but we should be pretty easy to find. Look for people wearing blue and red t-shirts and of course, a big Eaglexit float. Parade kicks off at 11am! We meander through Eagle River, culminating back at the same location. Again, If you are unable to walk but want to join us, you are welcome to ride on the float. You are also welcome to bring your children and pets to walk in the parade as well.
We have reserved the same booth, space 137, at Bear Paw as last year. We would love to meet you and put a face with a name. We will have cool posters, flyers, and other literature available for free. We will also have swag—cups, hats and t-shirts. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, we would love to hear them and encourage you to come talk with us at Bear Paw. Our education committee is not always at the booth but if you want to speak to someone on the education committee specifically, please reach out to us and we can let you know how to reach them.
Also, if you have an Eaglexit t-shirt and support our cause, would you consider wearing your t-shirt around Bear Paw? The more people see our logo walking around, the wider our reach and the closer we get to the Chugach Regional Borough becoming a reality.
We are currently planning our fall and winter Townhall topics. What topics or facets of our vision would you like us to present? Better yet, what burning questions do you have?
